As part of this joint initiative, Lenovo has pledged to donate laptops in support of OMF's School Electrification Program. The program aims to provide electricity to 10 schools across the Philippines in 2023 as well, with three schools each in Sarangani and Sultan Kudarat already enjoying the benefits of electrification. Plans are also underway to electrify two schools in South Cotabato and two more in Southern Palawan.
Michael Ngan, President and General Manager of Lenovo Philippines, said, "Our company has always been driven to provide smarter technology for all. However, we understand that without power, the potential of technology remains untapped. By providing laptops to electrified schools, we light the way for students and educators to access a world of knowledge."
This is not the first collaboration between Lenovo Philippines and the One Meralco Foundation. The partnership began last year when the former, inspired by the School Electrification Program's mission, reached out to the latter. According to Ngan, the initiative resonated with their global mission of empowering underrepresented populations with access to technology and STEM education. As a result, teachers from schools in Iloilo received additional laptops from the largest global PC maker.
One Meralco Foundation’s President, Jeff Tarayao, expressed his gratitude for Lenovo's support, saying, “Being able to reach the most distant island schools in the country gives an even deeper meaning to our work in One Meralco Foundation. We are happy that our partners like Lenovo, join us in these areas and contribute to the meaningful change that helps improve communities,” OMF President and Meralco Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer Jeffrey O. Tarayao said. This reinforces the world’s #1 PC maker’s position as a reliable partner in delivering solution-led transformations in the education sector.
To enable the productivity of our teachers and students, and their immediate communities by providing energy access to many underserved communities in the country is a great part of Meralco’s advocacy, according to Meralco Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ronnie L. Aperocho. “Through our electrification initiatives, Meralco and OMF hope to continue changing more lives for the better and contributing to sustainable and inclusive development of communities beyond our franchise area,” Aperocho concluded.
